GET INVOLVED! AdvocatingHomeopathy for Healthcare Research Funding
Earlier this week, NCH sent an urgent Action Alert asking members to comment on the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine's (NCCAM) future plans - specifically how they should prioritize their spending for the years 2011 through 2015. NCCAM is the primary funding source for research on complementary and alternative medicine in the United States.
In that Alert, we urged members to comment by November 19. That date, communicated to us by another organization, was in error. The final date to post your comments is November 30.
When you visit the NCCAM site, we ask that you post the following request:
*********************************
I request that NCCAM make a commitment to write a specific Program Announcement around basic, preclinical, and clinical research on Homeopathy.
When NCCAM designs this program, it should take into consideration that:
- there are numerous studies (observational, pre-clinical and clinical) showing that homeopathy works;
- that homeopathy is used by tens of millions here and around the world;
- that homeopathy has a superb safety record;
- that homeopathic treatment has the potential to help our aging population with chronic disease at a lower cost than conventional care.
**********************************
Of course, feel free to add to this statement if you wish, perhaps citing specific studies, or, briefly, your experiences.
A partial list of research studies compiled by Iris Bell, MD, PhD in 2007 can be found on the NCH website at www.nationalcenterforhomeopathy.org/content/homeopathy-research-evidence-base-references. A few of the recent homeopathic studies carried out in the US and abroad are mentioned in NCH e-Newsletters: these are archived on the NCH website at www.nationalcenterforhomeopathy.org, click on Articles, click on NCH e-Newsletter.
Much is at stake for homeopathy in this debate. Please post your comment today!
